Thomas Rowland is a recreational tennis player who lives in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, with his wife Margot. His insights into the philosophy of the game are rooted in a
three-year stint as captain of the Lansing (Michigan) Everett High School tennis team (match record 2-21) and a short-lived membership in the 1962 University of Michigan freshman tennis team (cut short after a 0-6, 1-6 loss to then-Canadian junior c
hampion Harry Fauquier on the opening day of practice). He was tennis reporter for the Michigan Daily, and has been an invited speaker before the French Tennis Federation. Most recently he authored Tennisology, a book addressing the science of the sp
ort. Between tennis matches he serves as a pediatric cardiologist at the Baystate Medical Center in Spring eld, Massachusetts.
