2018 gewann der italienische Fotograf Francesco Neri mit einer Portraitstudie uber Landwirte seiner norditalienischen Heimat den erstmals ausgelobten August-Sander-Preis fur Portraitphotographie der
Photographischen Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur, Koln. Neri, der bei Guido Guidi in Ravenna studierte, kommt aus der analogen Tradition. Seine sorgfaltig komponierten Portraits von Mannern, Frauen und Kindern der bauerlichen Betriebe sind uberraschend k
leinformatig, da er sie als Kontakte von seinen 8x10 Inch Farb- oder SW-Negativen ausbelichtet. Das Licht, die Hintergrunde, die Haltung, Korpersprache, der Blick, der von korperlicher Arbeit gepragten Menschen sind zentrale Elemente seiner stillen,
melancholischen Bilder, die gleicherma?en Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft der heute noch kleinteiligen, familiaren, dorflichen Strukturen in der Landwirtschaft dokumentieren und befragen.
Francesco Neri (*1982) unterrichtet im Rahmen des Pho
tographic Visiting School-Programm der AA School of Architecture, London und ist Professor fur Fotografie am Institut fur Graphic Design in Faenza. Seit uber zehn Jahren arbeitet er an verschiedenen photographischen Langzeitprojekten vor allem im Ber
eich des Portraits, aber auch Landschaft und Interieur zahlen zu seinen Ausdrucksfeldern. "Farmers" ist seine erste monografische Publikation!
