Your Daily Male 2025: Every day a new man!


The last 10 days of this calendar are dedicated to a special project.

My father, Johannes van Stralen, created many dozens of paintings during his retirement years. The subjects for these were often taken from his (and my) home village of Grou in Friesland. Like the skutsjes of Grou and it Hearrenfean on the Pikmeer near Grou. This image, with the addition of a large bearded man, graces the cover of Your Daily Male 2025.

But holidays were also an inspiration for fine landscape paintings. Like the painting ''Fortmanterre Canigou area'' pictured on 30 December. In that painting, two small figures can be seen, which are my mother and a friend of my parents.

Many of the paintings he made were gifted to friends, family, acquaintances, neighbours.

But his estate also included another series of paintings, which ended up in the attic with me and my youngest sister, without having found a new destination.

At the end of 2023, I was in Munich and I also visited Martin Arz. He had told me of his new project under the pseudonym Coriander Pinxit. Landscape paintings he had bought in thrift shops to which he had added people or animals. A huge rubber duck in a river landscape or cartoon characters appearing in a cityscape.

This led to him getting about 15 paintings from my father asking if he could boost these paintings. He succeeded wonderfully and these paintings will be exhibited at MooiMan gallery in early 2025.
